Hotel Pick-up & Equipment Preparation

Hotel pick-up in Puerto Villamil and transfer to El Cura station, where the hike begins. After approximately 50 minutes of ascent, you will reach the main viewpoint of Sierra Negra’s caldera. The trail then continues along the crater rim toward Volcán Chico, crossing impressive lava fields and volcanic landscapes. After exploring and taking photos, return to El Cura station and transfer back to town in the early afternoon.

Sierra Negra Volcano

One of the most active volcanoes in the Galápagos, featuring a 10 km wide caldera—the second largest crater in the world. From the viewpoint, visitors can admire panoramic volcanic scenery and observe endemic plants and wildlife adapted to arid conditions.

Volcán Chico

A secondary volcanic area located on the northeast flank of Sierra Negra. Here you will explore recent lava flows, colorful mineral formations, lava tunnels, small craters, and active fumaroles that reveal the island’s ongoing geothermal activity.
